This is continuing the discussion on all the different databases. I couldn't quite answer these questions from the discussion. I have a client that is setting up a corporate-wide database, and is deciding whether to do it on Mac or VAX. The Mac has the graphic interface and output, and the VAX has the speed and concurrent user capabilities. Questions: 1) Can any of the Mac databases support 100 concurrent users? What is the maximum? Note that I'm talking about each user having the full capabilities his security level at all times, no "locking out" while so-and-so does such-and-such. 2) Just how slow are the Mac databases for this many users. 3) Can they just keep the database on the VAX and use one of those terminal/graphic interface programs like Oracle? 4) If 3) is yes, will they still be able to make graphic, Mac-style reports from the data (via the Mac), or do they only have the VAX DB program's report generating capability? 5) Which graphic interface program is recommended? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thankyou. -- Kent Richards benkei@cs.utexas.edu
