One of our local folk asked about CAT software; his query follows: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Does anyone out there know of software that does Computer Assisted Transcription (CAT) for the Macintosh? This is the process whereby stenotyped transcripts generated by court reporters are translated into English text documents which then represent the official record of a trial or other legal proceeding. There are several competing systems to do this that run on IBM/clone platforms. Two that immediately come to mind are called StenoCAT and ProCAT. These systems include something like a RAM card that the stenotype machine and captmachine-readable form. This card is removed and inserted into a 'reader box' attached to the computer and the CAT software translates the keystrokes into text readable by ordinary people (if attorneys can be termed 'ordinary people'). The vendors claim as high as 90% accuracy in the automatic translation process. The computer operator, or 'scopist', then completes the translation of whatever the machine was unable to handle, resolves ambiguities and pro Try as I might, I have been unable to locate any such software or systems that are built around the Mac. It could be that this area is so specialized that there are only IBM/clone systems that will do it, but I sure hope not. Can anyone save me from the horrible prospect of having to buy a DOS machine? Thanks in advance, Manny Sylvester (MSylvester) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If anyone has heard of such a beast, we'd really appreciate hearing from you. Please email to me; Manny is not on this system. If I get many queries (me,too) I'll post info received. larry gilmore@venice.sedd.trw.com
