Hi. I recently posted a couple of messages about SUM II. (1) In the first article, I pointed out that SUM II occasionally gives a misleading "Number of files/folders does not match MDB" response when analyzing a disk. This does not necessarily mean anything is wrong with the disk - SUM II sometimes gets confused under Multifinder. A few other people reported having similar problems. (2) In the second article I said that on one of my Mac II systems SUM II's Quick Fix utility told me that my "Allocation Map is invalid", and my "Directory is bad", but offered no way of fixing the problem. (The problem couldn't be too serious, because I suspect I'd had it for quite some time.) I got letters suggesting I try Apple's Disk First Aid or simple backup and reformat the disk. I forgot to try Disk First Aid, but I borrowed a copy of Norton Utilities and it repaired the problem! OK, I don't know much about hard disks and wouldn't use the advanced features of either SUM II or Norton anyway. But all I can say is that so far Norton has proven more useful. On the other hand, I like SUM II's quick copy utility. I guess my vote is for Symantec to combine the packages! I'd rather not have to buy Norton outright, since I promised my wife I wouldn't spend any more on the computer... -Ralph
