Hi, there, My office is in a state of deciding on a compression software to buy. Could anyone give me recommendations on the disadvantages and advantages of following programs: 1. StuffIt Classic 2. StuffIt Deluxe 3. Compactor 4. DiskDoubler I have used 1. and 2. and think that Compactor is faster and saves more space after compression. But I don't know anything about the other two. It was told (don't quite remember the detail) that You can use a compressed file compressed by DiskDoubler without de-compress it with the program first. Anyone has experience on that and how would you rate the program with other 3 programs? Our office do not need any network jobs, and all we do is to compress graphics jobs done on MacDraw, PageMaker, Word, FreeHand. You input is very much appreciated. Peter Liu

DiskDoubler I bought diskdoubler at mac world and absolutly love the product! It is so convienent to use. At mac world they showed the software with a soon to be released nubus card that does the de/compression in hardware. DiskDoubler supports the hardware card and I think make compression up to 10 times faster. Its truly awesome! If you double click on a compressed file DD decompresses the file and launches the application that created it. If you have recompress option set it automagically recompresses the file when you are done. Compactor is the best compression program and I use it to send files to other people. It makes the smallest archives. -- ___________________________________________________________ Matthew Mora | my Mac Matt_Mora@QM.SRI.COM SRI International | my SUN mxmora@unix.sri.com ___________________________________________________________
