[comp.sys.mac.apps] Unix compatible compress

pvowles@ec.uwa.oz.au (Paul Vowles) (02/05/91)

Hi,

I am looking for a utility that will allow me to de/compress
	files in the UNIX-compress format.

						Thanks in advance

MacCompress 3.2 is available via ftp from sumex-aim.stanford.edu. All in
all, not a bad program, though it can be rather dumb at times. Seems
MacCompress uses the filename to calculate a magic number when compressing
under the "MacCompress" option. So if you if you rename the file, it won't
uncompress it.

I think the unix option works fine. I've tested it several times.

MacCompress 3.2, which is available from the sumex archives (probably in the
util directory, but I'm not sure), will do just that.
