A funny thing happened tonight. Remember there was a time when solutions were suggested concerning re- formatting floppies that seemed suspect? Well, every now and then, the Finder will reject the "erase disk" disk option on a floppy. What I did was to bring these shonky disks to a PC and format it as a DOS disk and used DOS Mounter to use these as spare disks. Tonight, after installing AccessPC on my HD, I proceeded to reformat those disks which I formatted as DOS disks. I was disappointed that the AccessPC still didn't provide SoftPC a real "format a:" but only allowed the formatting of floppies in the Finder, and then only formatting them as if done using Apple File Exchange. Well, these floppies failed to be reinitialized. As I don't have a PC at home, I clicked the Mac option for erasing the disk this time, a disk that had failed many times previously. To my amasement, this one and subsequent others were reported as successfully reformatted!! As Mac disks which was impossible before!! What gives? Floppies in a past life as Mac reformatted rejects, cannot be formatted as DOS disks again, but can instead be formatted as Mac ones!!! I'm ???????? about it. Any theories? **** My employers ignore me, I'm on my own when I speak out in public **** Norton Chia || My address is carsup@extro.ucc.su.oz.au Micro Support || "When are they going to put in built-in spell-chequers" *******************************************************************************
