[comp.sys.mac.apps] EndNote Question

arie@dip.eecs.umich.edu (Arie Covrigaru) (05/07/90)

I am using EndNote 1.2.1 to format a document created with Microsot
Word 4.0. The document is formatted as expected except that a citation
I have placed in a footnote is missed by EndNote and thus, the reference
is not added to the reference list.

Is this a known bug in this version of EndNote, is there some work around
this problem (besides manually searching for all citations in footnotes),
and is there a fixed version of EndNote that already fixes this problem
and I should know about?

Arie.

This is a known problem, and we hope to have it fixed in the next version,
due out sometime this year. It's easy to keep track of (Author, Date)
cites in footnotes, but very difficult to get the numeric sequence, which
is why we haven't done it yet. We are working on it.

Hi.
I have an endnote question for you gurus out there... Is there
any way to get Endnote to format reference citations in a paper such that
multiple citations like [1,2,3,4] come out like [1-4]?

				Thanks in advance,

I would like to find some reasonable way to use EndNote with Nisus. Since
EndNote does not directly support Nisus, the option that naturally comes to
mind is save from Nisus in Word format, let EndNote munch on the Word document,
then suck it back into Nisus after EndNote produces the Word file.

The problem is that EndNote make the Word file in "fast mode" which among other
things, means that Nisus cannot read it.

I don't know whether to call this a Nisus problem or an EndNote problem, but
anyone have a workaround?

Thanks,

Yes, you understand the problem exactly. The only known way to make this work
is to open the paper in Word and then Save As... with a new name or the "Fast
Save" option turned off. Not a wonderful solution, I'm sure.

Niles and Paragon are working hard on getting compatibility, and we'll let you
know as soon as we support Nisus.

(For all those who asked, our baby David was born on December 27, 8 lbs, 4 oz,
healthy and (usually) happy. His father and I are doing pretty well too, and
I'll be back at Niles part-time by next month. Assuming the silly boy ever
learns how to eat from a bottle!)
