The Word 4.0 manual says the manual was written with Word.
How do you get Word to produce those little 4-lines-stacked-closely-
atop-one-another things that sit in the left margin next to italicized
headings? (If you don't know what I mean, just look through a few
pages of the manual. They're legion.)

Well, not wanting to lose my position as resident King Of Word here at McNeal Hall, I made up a Word document that features those little thingys as well as the Word manual header [six lines with a letter superimposed]. It follows later in this article [it's small; around 4K]. After doing this, I must say that I don't believe that those things were really created in Word for the manual layout. Alignment is too much of struggle [hint: they're made of 4 stacked, bordered paragraphs]. I'd bet they were imported from SuperPaint or somewhere. After all, the manual only says, "This document was created with Microsoft Word." I haven't looked at Chaz's file, but the way we did it when I worked for Ginn Press (Div. of Simon & Schuster) was to make side-by-side indented paragraphs, and just play with them until it worked.
