I tried to do "shift enter" to force a page break in word4.00B and it doesn't work! Actually, it show the page break correctly both in print preview and page view but not in the print out! Further investigations show that the page numbering in the Table of Content does not match what is shown in the box at the left bottom corner of the window! When you add the page breaks AFTER putting in the hidden text codes for your table of contents entries, the page breaks also get the hidden text attribute and don't work. I use the paragraph format of "page break before" on the paragraph headings to determine page breaks and avoid this problem entirely. However, if you feel more comfortable with the visual page breaks, turn on hidden text while you're entering them. Then select the line and turn off hidden text (command-shift-x) if its not working. Page break before formatting, by the way, avoids having to flip back and forth between hidden text and regular display. If you also have index entries that take up extra lines, you have to flip back and forth to find the next page break and get it to work. With page break before formatting, you get a little square to the left of the paragraph head as a reminder that you've applied a format that affects pagination, but you can't tell which format you've applied unless you look at the paragraph formatting. For that reason, I move all paragraph formats to the menu where I can quickly see where the checkmarks are. I also have "page break before" assigned to a function key. Hope this helps Shirley Kehr
