[comp.sys.mac.apps] Quicken and HP DeskWriter - which checks to use?

sanford@aria.ascend.com (Curtis Sanford) (02/21/91)

I have a question about which checks to use with Quicken for the HP
DeskWriter. I have been advised by Intuit customer service that for
the DeskWriter I should order the 1-check-per-page checks (wasteful of
paper, expensive, awkward) rather than the 3-check-per-page Laser Printer
checks. They said that the reason was that DeskWriters can only print on
2 out of 3 of the laser checks on each page. I've done dry runs with
regular paper and it seems to print all 3 checks just fine. Before ordering
$80 worth of checks, I wonder if anyone has any experience with the
DeskWriter and Quicken, one way or the other. My DeskWriter is brand new,
purchased this month (which seemed also to matter to Intuit).

Thanks in advance for any help.

I got my Deskwriter when I already had a stack of Imagewriter
(continuous form) checks, so I tried them in the Deskwriter.
I tear off the side perfs, and tear off three checks at a time.
They feed just fine. If I have fewer than three to print, I just
tear off one or two, and they usually go fine, though they tend
to skew a bit sometimes. I never got the option to print
a partial first page to work, so I don't know how that will work
with the laser checks, where that situation will come up.
I'm running out of checks, so I'll find out soon...
