A brief but intense hurrah goes to Softview, Inc., makers of the marvelous MacInTax program. (Yes, it's really good. I've used it for the last three years, and will use it in the forseeable future. Anyone doing his or her own taxes involving any complexity whatever should have it. But that's not what I want to tell you about.) For non-users: Softview sends early buyers their first version of the software, followed a few weeks later with an automatic upgrade to the final version. The upgrade came last week on two floppies. As I was installing the first disk, my lovely 3-year-old exemption got hold of the second disk. Pulled back the shutter, said: "Daddy, what's this?!" Oh-oh. Yes. The disk was unreadable. Ack. Stuck halfway through an upgrade. I called Softview's number, explained what happened. I was prepared to shell out a nominal disk replacement fee. But the nice lady--her name was Heather--at the other end of the country said she would send me a new disk tomorrow. Period. Softview is nicer than they have to be. Good for them. I hope this posting somehow gains them a little more business, to make up for the extra expense of being generous to folks like me. -- -- Paul A.
