What file server software works with 4-Dimension in multiuser mode, besides TOPS and Appleshare? Do you have experiences in using 4D in multiuser? I would like to hear from people who have done this. Our small company is expanding and we want to start using our 4-Dimension contacts tracking database in multiuser mode, which is done by placing the data and structure files on a file server. We are using a modified version of the Contacts II database that ships as a 4D 2.0 example. I know that performance will be slow over appletalk. I know of many file server programs including tops, appleshare, Personal Server Network, DataClub, Public File (a server?), Single Server and I believe there are others. After paying for 4D you can understand my reluctance to use a dedicated server. I called 4D tech support and they kept recommending appleshare or tops. They said dataclub works, but at MacWorld one of their people said to avoid distrib- uted servers. I would like to use a PD/shareware program if possible. What is required of the server software? Does it need to do "appleshare record locking"? I will post a summary of replies. Thanks again for your help. I just wish Acius was as friendly and helpful as the net! rich
