My mac started behaving strangely yesterday evening. I let my son use my machine so that he could try a new game he got from a friend. I have Gatekeeper and Aid on my machine so I thought I'd be safe. However, he inserted his disk and copied a new system folder on my hard drive and either restarted or activated this system. I deleted his folder and went on to work. By the end of the day, I couldn't start my backup software (Redux). I get an error -199. Two other softwares were also "damaged." I can run them from the original floppy, but if I copy them on my hard drive, the copy will not work. I thought it could be a virus, but disinfectant finds nothing. I used ResEdit to look at the desktop and got a message that the file was opened for write (i.e. apparently used by another application). I have reinitialized my hard drive and restored from my last back-up, but the problems are still there. Occasionally, after I restart my machine, I get the warning that the desktop needs to be rebuilt, which takes several seconds (I have close to 2000 files). I had until yesterday a stable configuration (IIci with 15 or so inits) and do not have the faintest idea what can cause this. I have already lost an important reference stack and fear the worst since my backup has not resolved the problem and may have been contaminated. If someone has an idea, I'll appreciate your suggestions. Thanks, Stephane
