[comp.sys.mac.apps] What is QUED/M?

dave@PRC.Unisys.COM (David Lee Matuszek) (02/28/91)

I recently seem to have acquired a copy of QUED/M, by Paragon
Concepts. This is a word processor that has special features for
editing programs, and looks like it may be a forerunner of Nisus.
I have some questions about it, though.

1. Is this shareware/freeware/pd, or do I have a pirated copy?

2. I cannot find it listed in my software catalogs; if it is
commercial, where can I purchase a legitimate copy? (Other than
directly from Paragon, that is--I prefer to deal with places like
MacConnection, they're lots cheaper and lots faster.)

3. If commercial, what is the latest version?

4. Is QUED/M a subset of Nisus? I've played with a demo copy of
Nisus and love it; someday I hope to be able to buy it. If it's a
subset, that means I advance my plans to buy Nisus [ it's hard to
justify, since I have Word 4.0 :-( ].

I'm afraid I'm going to discover it's commercial, but no longer on the
market. That raises a number of thorny issues [but please don't send
me advice in this case; I'll probably just talk to Paragon....]

When I was young, my family bought a color TV. Our neigbors, who
were poorer, had only a black-and-white set. They bought a piece of
cellophane, red on top, yellow in the middle, and blue on the bottom,
and taped it over their screen, so they could claim that they had a
color TV, too.
  Now there's Windows 3.0.

It is a commercial product. Therefore, unless you purchased it, you probably
have a pirated copy.

ComputerWare carries it.

I don't know that it is the latest update, but I believe 2.08 is the latest
that I've encountered.

QUED/M is a programmer's editor (QUality Editor for Developers/Macros) and
was the forerunner of Nisus and the germination point of many Nisus features.

It's still on the market (or at least it was at MacWorld).

You can get it (v2.09) from MacTutor for $105, Paragon is charging $119.

MacTutor (714) 777-1255
Paragon (800) 922-2993
  in CA (619) 481-1477

Another option is to call MacWherehouse, the cataloges you get in the mail is
by no means
ALL of what they have to sell. Call them and tell them the Manufacturers name
and the
name of the product. If they have Nissius they might have QUED. If you are
looking for a
cheap text editor you might want to look at Alpha 3.5 it is a shareware editor
(20-ish
dollars) with a good sized subset of what QUED will do for you.
