Here is an excerpt from the README file that comes with the Word 4.00D
maintenance upgrade:

UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT WORD VERSION 4.0 USERS

Please note the following corrections and additions to Microsoft Word
version 4.00D and its documentation.

Release 4.00D improves Word in the following areas:

     - A small mumber of files not in Word document format could not be opened
by Word 4.00C. This problem was unique to version 4.00C and is fixed in
4.00D.

     - All of the earlier improvements described below.

Release 4.00C improved Word in the following areas:

     - Documents saved in Word for the Macintosh format in Word for Windows
are opened properly by Word for the Macintosh.

     - All of the earlier improvements described below.

Release 4.00B improved Word in the following areas:

     - Fractional widths option allowed with Imagewriter printers.

     - Macintosh IIci compatability.

     - Text and color display on large monitors, on multiple-monitor
configurations, and on monitors capable of displaying more that a million
colors (24-bit display monitors).

     - Compatability with Desk Accessories using multiple windows.

     - Display of drop-down lists in dialog boxes when the list extends below
the window.

     - Removes the extra blank line below a positioned paragraph within
wrapping ext.

     - Allows you to add dotted lines to menus using the ---Separator--- option
in the Commands dialog box.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unless you are having problems with Word 4.00 don't even think about moving
to 4.00D. Wait for a *real* upgrade. Moving up to one of these intermediate
versions can be a hassle. (For example: The WordFinder DA that comes with
Word 4.00 does not open the Thesaurus that comes with version 4.00D.)
