[comp.sys.mac.apps] Quickmail-MHS-Gateway

odreer@iiic.ethz.ch (Oliver Dreer) (03/15/91)

We have about 500 Macs Networked, and want to use Quickmail
as E-Mail. To connect them to the Mainframe and other
Computers (PC's) we want to use the MHS Gateway
for Quickmail. Is this a good solution or are there other
good ideas? Who has made any experiences with such
Gateways?

Thanks in advance!

Oliver,

Contact StarNine (info@starnin.com) about their new Mail*Link MHS gateway for
QuickMail. StarNine can be reach via voice at (415) 548-0391. Also, if you
are using the original MHS gateway from CE Software, StarNine will give you a
50 user package as a free upgrade.

There is a public domain software BeaverGate Bridge from University
of Toronto. It acts as a QuickMail bridge for the SMTP world and requires
a Mac II (Mac Plus, Classic cannot be used). The most interesting feature
is that it does not need to register the users (as most of others).

The current version we run here can be obtained via anonymous ftp at
'gwmail.epfl.ch' (128.178.50.6). As it is a VAX/VMS you need to do
'cd mail' then 'cd beaver' and then get the file 'beavergate.sit_hqx'.
Just unBinHex and unStuffIt to have a folder with all you need.
This is a beta version which has bugs fixed from the original ditributed
at UToronto.
