How's this for strange: I have many Microsoft Word (4.0) files on my hard disk. They used to be fine, opening normally, and opening word if you double-clicked on them. Now they do not behave so well. Under normal circumstances, they identify themselves as 'documents' rather than 'Microsoft Word documents' and, when double-clicked upon, report that the 'application can not be found'. Note that I said "under normal circumstances." If I tunnel through the necessary folders so that Microsoft word is visible (that is, so that it's icon can be seen), the documents reidentify themselves and all is fine. If I close the window, the documents revert to their unidentified state. All my other files work fine; the level of nesting of the application seems not to be an issue. Microsoft Word has both its bundle bit and init bit set. Any guesses? Please respond via Email, as I don't normally read this group. ****************************************************************************** Michael Stern * "I love children, especially when they cry, * for then someone takes them away." stern6@husc9.harvard.edu * -Nancy Mitford ******************************************************************************
