We are really interested in finding out when WP is going to put out a version of WP for the Macintosh that has a built in equation writer. I personally was under the impression that WP 2.0 would have this feature built in, but the obvious conclusion is that that is not the case. I would really like to know if a followup version to WP 2.0 will be coming out that will handle equations. I know that WP 5.1 for the IMB has a built in equation writer and it is very good. To have such a capability on the Mac would be highly desireable for myself and others in the group. If any official word is available it would be greatly appreciated. Can the quest for information be considered an opinion? Why not? Cornell University and Cornell Space Plasma Physics have rights to everything except my opinions...

WP has released version 2.0.1 which can now <gasp> read Word 4.0 files!!! I guess the next thing on the agenda is to get out a version which can also write into Word 4.0 format! I haven't seen it but it kind of supports XTND. If they got it right, then it would read and write the majority of file formats. See a copy of MacWrite II 1.1 to see how XTND is supposed to work! Now back to the question at hand. Why not use an equasion editor. There are DAs for this purpose. MathType is one and there are others... --Patrick Hoepfner |+ +| Internet: hoepfner@heasfs.gsfc.nasa.gov --America Online: PatrickH9 | O | SPAN: LHEAVX::HOEPFNER (6197::HOEPFNER) -- +--------------------------+---------------------------------------+ / Patrick Hoepfner | NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center \ / America Online: PatrickH9 | Internet: hoepfner@heasfs.gsfc.nasa.gov \ +-----------------------------+------------------------------------------+

Are you referring to WP in the generic sense? Aside from Word which has a fairly primitive built-in equation editor, there are only two others that I know of: FrameMaker and MathWriter. Version 2.0 of MW is about ready to ship. Look for a review of MathWriter in the _Notices of the AMS_ in a couple of months. Tom Scavo scavo@cie.uoregon.edu
