[comp.sys.mac.apps] seeking Arabic word processor

majors@milton.u.washington.edu (Robert Majors) (04/10/91)

I am looking for an Arabic word processor, which can switch between Arabic
and Roman. I was informed of one called El Katib. The second hand infor-
mation I have on it suggests that it might be somewhat difficult to use,
and that it might crash on higher end Macs. Apparently the manufacturer
of the program recommends their PC version of the same (the Mac version
*may* not be getting as much support--although this is just 2nd hand
speculation) more than the Mac version.
Any useful information on this or other products would be greatly
appreciated.

I use El Katib on my macintosh. El Katib had localized as Japanese
version. It called AllScript-J. I also have AllScript-E english
version of El Katib. Because both -J and -E version of them are
released in the same master program disk. Of course the instruction
manual are written in both Japanese and English. AllScript can handle
Japanese, English and Arabic appropriately in the same line on your
document. (RTL and LTR) There is the dealer's address in Japan.

AllScript (El Katib) is very easy to use for me.

I use AllScript-E on my macintosh LC with system version 6.07 which is
the latest version.

MAKI Enterprise Inc. send me a copy of latest version of AllScript.
I called them when I have some question about the product, they can
answer my question. I have been able to solve my problems.

I recomend that you should get Arabic system software from MAKI
Enterprise, beause there are some bugs on font handling in original
Arabic system software from Apple. MAKI Enterprise knows how to fix
it.
