[comp.sys.mac.apps] Fastback II and System 7.0b4

tigger@freezer.it.udel.edu (david faust) (04/15/91)

I installed system 7.0b4 last week and when I went to do my weekly backup
nothing happened. I was using version 2.10 of Fastback II (I think that is
the version but I am not at my mac). Has anyone else had this problem? Any
solutions besides waiting for an upgrade? Or is there an upgrade out there
that I missed? Thanks for all of the help,
Dave

I haven't tried version 2.1 under system 7. The current release of Fastback
II is 2.5. It ran under 7.0a9 just fine. I haven't tried backing up to
floppies under 7.0b4, but I know that tape backups work. Also, since
Fastback II v2.5 works, I expect that Fastback II v2.1 should work, too.

One caveat -- don't try to use the high-speed floppy disk drivers if you
have virtual memory turned on. That code is interrupt-driven and doesn't
know how to lock its buffers in physical RAM. If you're backing up to
floppies, either turn off virtual memory or choose "System Default" as
the backup media type.

Fifth Generation Systems is experimenting with 7.0b4, too, and I'm
sure they would be pleased to know about any problems you may find.
