[comp.sys.mac.apps] Real ResEdit 2.1 Bug

siegman@sierra.STANFORD.EDU (Anthony E. Siegman) (04/26/91)

Reproducible ResEdit 2.1 bug (at least for me):

Open ResEdit 2.1, and Open some application with an ICN# resource.
Open one of those ICN# resources. Move the pointer over the little
box near the right-hand edge that's labelled "Icon" and shows a
miniture version of the icon in question. The pointer changes into a
"grabber" (looks like a little paw). Hold the mouse down and use this
"grabber" to drag the "Icon" box (or its contents?) down to the
similar little box labelled "Mask". (This should transfer the icon
into the mask field, right?) Release the mouse once the pointer is
over the little Mask box. In Finder you get a system crash; in
Multifinder you're told that the ResEdit application has "unexpectedly
quit (1)".

This is on a Mac II running System 6.0.5, no unusual features to the
system. I believe it happens on my SE/30 also.

I don't have access to any Apple networks; if anyone else does and
wants to forward this as a bug report, ...

[bug description -- dragging icon to mask causes crash under 6.0.5]

I've done the exact operation described here numerous times, and have had no
problems with it. This was under 7.0b4, however, not 6.0.5.
