Has anyone had any luck linking images created with version 2.0 of SuperPaint with Word 4.0a? I was able to hot link images created with version 1.1 (the one that shipped with Word) but SuperPaint ver. 2.0 doesn't seem to work. Is this a bug that got fixed in subsequent versions of Word (b, c, etc.) or am I going to have live with 1.1 (which I really don't want to do since 2.0 has some very nice features)? I will summarize to this newsgroup. Thanks. Tom Scavo scavo@cie.uoregon.edu

Thanks to everyone who responded to my query. Although one person had claimed to be able to do this, most lamented the fact that MicroSoft and Silicon Beach (subsumed by Aldus?) no longer have such a working relationship. Only SuperPaint ver. 1.1MS works with the QuickSwitch feature, and even that is no longer bundled with Word 4.0. So much for hot linking graphics to my Word documents. :-( Of course, one could export a 1.1 document from SuperPaint 2.0, but it just doesn't seem worth it... Tom Scavo scavo@cie.uoregon.edu

A previous summary of mine lamented the fact that Word was incompatible with SuperPaint 2.0. This is not entirely correct. Many thanks to long@mcntsh.enet.dec.com for showing me the error of my ways. Do this: o Crank up SuperPaint and create a graphic. SAVE IT. This is important. o Select whatever is wanted of the graphic. Copy to the clipboard. o Switch to Word. Paste Link--NOT just Paste. Paste Link is on the Edit menu. I can now select the graphic and do Update Link or Edit Link. What actually goes on here is a hidden paragraph is inserted just before the graphic. This paragraph gives Word the infor- mation it needs to find the graphic later. You can see this by turning on Show Hidden Text from the Preferences dialog. Tom Scavo scavo@cie.uoregon.edu
