Awhile back I asked for some help locating the authors/owners of NOW Utilities. I have recently made contact with these people and have been given an address for "tech support". Jorg Brown handles all bug reports and can be reached at: 73177.1404@Compuserve.com He also informed me that soon they will have some one on the internet to answer questions. Hope this helps some of you out. dave -- David A. Grayson grayson@hougen.seas.ucla.edu

I have been looking for a utility to paste a picture onto the desktop on my LC for a while and rejoiced when I found DeskPicture in Now Utilities 2.0.3 After selecting a nice Escher GIF which I converted to a pict (via Giffer) I used Deskpicture to paste it to the desktop. It looked really good (even on the 4 bit video as I don;t yet have enough VRAM to go to 8 and after deskpicture scaled it to fit). Imagine my dissappointment when I changed the bit depth of the monitor - *BOOM* Mac completely frozen - restart. Oh, I thought, must be an INIT clash or similar. I turned of *everything* except Deskpicture and Depthguage. I again changed the bit depth - *BOOM*. Aha! Depthguage is buggy. Remove it and restart. Use monitors in control panel to change bit depth - *BOOM*. SH*T. Reason that Deskpicture does not have enough memory to work with. Use heaptool to increase stack size by 256k. Restart and gain try to change bit depth - *BOOM*. Conclusion: Deskpicture (a) Doesn't work properly with multibit images, or (b) Doesn't work so well with LC's As the gif was originally 8 bit and displayed ok on the 4 bit setting I would tend to discount (a).
