[comp.sys.mac.apps] ATM->TrueType via FontMonger

What a disappointment.

I was sick of ATM crashing under Sys7, so I had the brilliant idea-- I'd
convert my 60 Adobe typefaces to TrueType, and forget about ATM.

So I bought FontMonger, and set it converting my fonts. It took all afternoon,
but without any interaction in the background.

What I first noticed when I started using my newly-created TrueType fonts was
that the Mac wasn't using italic fonts, it was obliquing! Well, a little
probing with Resedit showed what was happening. Since I use Type Reunion, I
don't harmonize my fonts, and I had FontMonger convert "Times", "B Times Bold",
etc. Well, even though the Adobe bitmaps for "B Times Bold" were linked to the
"Times" 'FOND', FontMonger did not add the TrueType 'sfnt' of "B Times Bold" to
the "Times" 'FOND'.

However, a worse problem arose when I printed to my Personal LW SC. The
TrueType versions of the fonts were awful! Stone Sans, my workhorse font, came
out looking like Helvetica!

Well, now I've reinstalled ATM, and I'm returning FontMonger under
MacConnection's 30-day guarantee.
