Just FYI. Since I saw one complaint about something not working right with the itt interface from harvard (and because I spent some time on it). Those of you using the itt driver (does TCP/IP over tty lines for those that don't know), you may also see seemingly catatonic behaviour from rwhod. The problem is that when a system has > ~11 users, the structure that rwhod broadcasts becomes larger than the defined MTU (maximum transmission unit) for the itt interface. This causes the sendto() in rwhod to fail with EMSGSIZE (the write failed because it could not be atomic). For the rest of you with REAL network interfaces, you can expect to see this seemingly catatonic behaviour from rwhod after ~59-60 users.

Gee, we just deleted the requirement that broadcast messages be sent in one packet. (Why? Because we have to live with a stupid ETHERMTU of 576, and we invariably want rwhod packets bigger than that during weekdays.) -- (This line accidently left nonblank.)
