I haven't used Illustrator or FreeHand 2.0. However, one of
the differences in 3.0 is that you can create named layers,
which makes it much easier to control what is in front of or
behind what. You can move objects from layer to layer, make
layers disappear (which makes it easier to select something
hidden), and move layers forward or back. I think there are
some other new features, too, but that looms as the largest.
