Try cp with two dirs as arguments and no -r on 4.2. A "copy" of the first dir is put in the second. By copy I mean a data file which looks like the first dir, but isn't a dir. Is this supposed to be a feature? o.o --tucker ~

"cp dir somewhere" will do a byte copy of the directory on most any Unix. This behavior is useless enough, and confusing enough to the naive users, that we altered cp to complain and refuse. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
