I'm currently researching computer vision analysis using functional programming methods, using SML as a compiler. We are using a 1989 compiler, and it is not especially fast. I know there is much potential for speed enhancement using functional languages, however I have as yet not found any information about this. Would anyone be able to enlighten me as to if SML is being developed on any parallel environment, and the sorts of speed increases such development brings. Also in terms of other environments, has SML been significantly changed or optimised since version of about 1989? Lastly, I would appreciate it if somewhere could tell me where such development is taking place. As a side issue, after reading the various manuals and trying a few tricks I can't overload functions using SML. Is this intentional or have I missed something along the way? Many thanks in advance, +Mark. -- Mark Allsop Computer Scientist email: mallsop@suna.mqcc.mq.oz.au The Statistical Laboratory Phone: At MacUni: (61 2) 805-8792 / \ Macquarie University, Australia Fax : : (61 2) 805-7433 | This one goes up to 11.....
