The department offers bachelor's, licentiate's and doctoral degrees in Computing Science with emphasis on Numerical Analysis, Parallel Computing and Computer Science. Research is conducted in parallel and distributed computing, term rewriting, automated reasoning and deductive databases, cognitive science and human-computer interaction, AI-philosophy, functional programming, numerical linear algebra and optimization. Facilities include an Intel iPSC/2 hypercube (64 nodes), ALLIANT FX/2816 (16 processors) with visualization unit, SUN Workstations and personal computers (Macintosh, PC). Candidates should have a distinguished record of original research in Computer Science and proven teaching and leadership qualities. Salary is expected to range between 300,000 and 400,000 SEK per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The appointee is expected to conduct and supervise research and participate in graduate teaching at the department. For its size (over 90000 inhabitants) Umea has a rich cultural life including Norrlandsoperan (The Opera of Norrland). ------------------------------------------------------ Visiting Scientist position in COMPUTER GRAPHICS and SCIENTIFIC VISUALIZATION UNIVERSITY OF UMEA, SWEDEN Umea University is together with the Technical University of Lulea, the Institute of Space Physics in Kiruna and the Industrial Development Center in Skelleftea, founder of Supercomputer Center North (SDCN). SDCN is one of two national centers for supercomputing in Sweden and is connected to all Swedish universities through the Swedish University Network (SUNET). Thereby scientists have access to a six processor IBM 3090 VF/600J, placed at Norrdata in Skelleftea. Due to the partnership in SDCN a position as Visiting Scientist in Computer Graphics and Scientific Visualization is open for application. The position is placed at the department for Computing Science (see announcement above for more information). Candidates are welcome to apply for a 3-12 months stay. The field has a wide and interdisciplinary profile and candidates for the position can have different scientific profiles ranging from research in tools and methods for Computer Graphics and Visualization in Scientific Computing, to graphics computing and visualization in Scientific Computing with an emphasis on applications from biology, biotechnology, chemistry, physics and medicine.
