David Lloyd George joins in the criticism of the Chamberlain government
as the Norway Debate in the House of Commons concludes. The House votes
281 to 200 in favor of the Prime Minister, with some 33 Conservatives
voting against. With such a thin margin of support, Chamberlain must
drastically change his cabinet or resign; he opts for the latter.

Hitler postpones Fall Gelb until 10 May. The Belgian Embassy in Berlin
sends home a warning that Germany is preparing an ultimatum for Belgium,
and that orders for an invasion have been issued. Some measure of calm
returns to the Netherlands after last night's invasion alert.

Sweden begins laying a 100-mile long belt of mines to protect the
approaches to Stockholm.
