At Hitler's directive, German High Command begins planning for the
invasion of Britain, code-named Seeloewe (Sea Lion). As a preliminary
measure, the Luftwaffe is to defeat the Royal Air Force.

The U-47 sinks the 15,000-ton British liner Arandora Star, which is
carrying some 1500 German and Italian internees and POW's to Canada;
670 are killed. The tragedy calls into question Britain's policy
of internment of foreign nationals, which is gradually relaxed.

General Sikorski issues an Order of the Day to Polish forces in Britain,
vowing to fight until Germany is defeated and Poland is restored.
