Japanese troops enter French Indo-China in force. The Vichy forces there
offer resistance, and combat occurs near Dong Dang. The action occurs
despite the compromise reached by negotiator allowing the use of certain
air bases by Japan and a garrison of 6000 Japanese troops.

The Italian Air Force is active in the Mediterranean, bombing Haifa and
Alexandria. RAF bombers strike at the Italians near Sidi Barrani, which
is also bombarded by British battleships offshore.

Uruguay prepares for the trial of 8 Nazi party leaders, charged with
plotting to overthrow the government and turn the nation into a German
agricultural colony.

"We Americans want peace, and it is now evident that we must be prepared to
demand it. For other peoples have wanted peace, and the peace they
received was the peace of death." - the Most Rev. Francis J. Spellman,
