From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Monday, 30 September, 1940 The RAF blunts 5 daylight raids against London; in many cases, only the outer suburbs are hit. A night raid by over 200 aircraft scores no better success. The air war over Britain for September has resulted in the loss of 247 British fighters versus 433 German. British civilian losses are 6954 killed, 10615 injured. London officials announce that in addition, 50 firemen have been killed, and 500 wounded. Britain strikes again at Berlin, and at the now-dispersing invasion fleets in Channel ports. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Bill Thacker military@att.att.com Send submissions for "50 Years Ago" to military-request@att.att.com "It is not the walls that make the city but the people who live within them. the walls of London may be battered, but the spirit of the Londoners stands resolute and undismayed." - King George VI
