U-boats break off their attack on convoy SC-7, having sunk 21 of its 39
ships.   HX-79 continues to suffer submarine attacks.

The destroyer HMS Venetia strikes a mine in the Thames Estuary and
sinks.

Reports from the Balkans state that German, Russian, and Turkish troops
are all massing at the borders.  Germany continues to make thinly-veiled
threats toward Greece and Turkey, and Britain promises to occupy Crete
should Greece be attacked.

As Japan negotiates with the government of the Netherlands East Indies for
fuel rights, Britain offers to buy that region's entire production of
aviation gasoline.

The Soviet Union hints that its relations with Great Britain might improve
if London and Washington recognize its incorporation of the Baltic States.
