From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Friday, 15 November, 1940 The Greek Third Army Corps forces a breach in the lines of the Italian 9th Army near Mount Morova. The Luftwaffe returns to London with 350 aircraft, but the capital's sturdy defenses prevent a repetition of last night's success against Coventry. The RAF replies with a heavy raid against Hamburg. Spain bars American reporters from its soil, claiming the measure is a retaliation for a US refusal to grant a visa to a Spanish newsman. The US State Department denies the claim, and many take the Spanish move to indicate an impending attack on Gibraltar. Flying boats of the U.S. Army Air Corps begin flying patrols from bases in Bermuda, watching for submarines and surface raiders. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Bill Thacker military@att.att.com Send submissions for "50 Years Ago" to military-request@att.att.com "This is French territory.
