From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Saturday, 14 December, 1940 Greek troops make further progress in Albania, advancing along the coast toward Khimara and fighting a see-saw battle in Tepeleni. Britain continues to prosecute the war against Italy; the RAF stages a night raid on Naples, in which the heavy cruiser Pola is damaged. The German ambassador to France begins to apply diplomatic pressure on behalf of former minister Laval. Meanwhile, Petain announces that Laval will be replaced by former premier Pierre-Etienne Flandin, who also favors Franco-German collaboration. The US Government makes its 146th annual payment to the Iroquois Indian Confederacy. In accord with the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua, each member of the Confederacy receives 6 yards of calico.
