The Luftwaffe continues to concentrate its strength against one main
target in Britain. Tonight's attack strikes at Manchester.

The RAF, on the other hand, hits numerous targets; the port facilities at
numerous cities in Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and the
Bergen-Oslo railroad.

Bardia remains under siege, and continued British attacks reduce the
perimeter there. Italy executes two alleged spies (one a naval officer)
and imprisons 22 others on charges of espionage.

Italy joins Germany in warning that the transfer by the United States of
Axis merchant vessels interned in neutral American ports would be
considered a belligerent act.

"`All aid short of war' is a phrase which should flush with shame the
cheeks of any one with pride in what America stands for. (The Battle of
Britain) is a fight of decency and humanity against an evil force. It is
our fight, and in its cause we should pledge our wealth, our lives and our
sacred honor." - H.M. Buggeln, in a letter to the New York Times
