Monday, 23 December, 1940

German bombers stage a repeat night raid on Manchester.  Damage is
heavy, but casualties are relatively few.  The RAF again bombs the railroad
junction at Mannheim.

Advancing Greek troops occupy Himarra, Albania.

As the Commonwealth army continues to advance in Libya, the number of
Italian prisoners in the operation tops 35,000.

The British Admiralty reports merchant shipping losses of 41,000 tons
for last week, down from an average of 63,000 tons per week.

Prime Minister Churchill broadcasts internationally, and urges Italians
to depose Premier Mussolini.
