The Greek Navy scores a success; the submarine Papanicolis sinks an Italian
transport near the Albanian coast.

Christmas Eve brings a lull in German air raids over Britain.  The RAF,
too, is inactive, except for units deployed in the Mediterranean.

Pope Pius XII again calls for peace, citing five requirements for a
lasting peace.

The US National Defense Advisory Committee considers possible government
management of aluminum production in an effort to overcome shortages
of vital aluminum products for aircraft.
