Hitler decides that German reinforcements must be sent to aid Italy's
efforts in Libya for "strategic, political, and psychological" reasons.

A new phase of submarine warfare opens in the Atlantic as Axis submarines
begin combined operations with long-range Condor maritime bombers.

Further German air raids on Mediterranean convoys result in damage to the
cruiser HMS Gloucester and the sinking of an escorting destroyer.
