An inconclusive armor battle is fought near Mechili, Libya between British and Italian forces. The Italian tanks eventually give way, losing nine of their number (compared to 7 British losses) and the British advance resumes. Col. Charles Lindbergh testifies before Congress during the deliberation on the Lend-Lease Bill. He warns that American aid to Britain will not affect the outcome of the war. General Antonescu's forces in Rumania put down the Iron Guard revolt.
