British and Norwegian commandos successfully complete Operation Claymore,
a raid on Lofoten Island off northern Norway. They destroy six fish
oil plants needed for explosives manufacture, liberate 300 Norwegian
patriots, and capture 215 Germans and Norwegian collaborationists.
British destroyers, meanwhile, sink six merchant ships. Seven Germans
are killed without loss to the Allied force. The British are pleased with
this success of their first commando raid, but German reprisals against
Norwegians are severe.

The first Commonwealth forces, including the 6th Australian and 2nd New
Zealand divisions, together with a Polish brigade, embark for Greece.

Prince Paul of Yugoslavia meets with Hitler at Berchtesgaden, and is
urged to join the Axis.
