From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Thursday, 6 March, 1941 Winston Churchill issues orders for "The Battle of the Atlantic." He stresses the need to defeat the U-boat menace and to counter German maritime bombers. Another Greek attack in Albania achieves local success, capturing key heights and 1000 Italians. RAF and Greek aircraft support the attack. German aircraft again mine the Suez canal, delaying reinforcement of Greece and North Africa. German officials condemn 18 members of the Dutch resistance to death for their part in unrest in that region. The US Government restricts the movement of Italian diplomats within its borders, and requests the closing of two of its consulates. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Bill Thacker military@att.att.com Send submissions for "50 Years Ago" to military-request@att.att.com "We signed our declaration of non-aggression with an independent country, but now Bulgaria is only a German province." - unofficial Turkish spokesman
