From: military@att.att.com (Bill Thacker) Friday, 14 March, 1941 Germany's bombers keep up the attack on Britain, repeating their raid on Glasgow and Clyde, and also hitting Sheffield. Berlin admits, though, that British countermeasures are having some effect on the night raids. Specifically, new night-fighters are cited, along with beacon fires used to decoy the bombers. Britain announces a trade mission to the United States to arrange for procurements under Lend-Lease. Representatives will attach top priority to the delivery of ships and foodstuffs. London also hints that terms might be found for a relaxation of the blockade to permit food shipments to occupied Europe. The US House of Representatives takes less than 90 minutes to pass a $3.5 billion Navy supply bill. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Bill Thacker military@att.att.com Send submissions for "50 Years Ago" to military-request@att.att.com "The question now before Japan is this: will the country, flushed with successes in Indo-China, urged on by Nazi advisors and technicians, and directed by hot ambition rather than wise statecraft, start a further advance directed at British Empire interests ?
