An Italian counterattack in Eritrea fails, and their situation continues to
rapidly deteriorate. The vital Keren position is lost. Meanwhile,
East African and South African forces under General Cunningham occupy
Jijiga in Ethiopia. The troops have advanced almost 1000 miles from Kenya
in only five weeks.

Britain rations jam and marmalade to 8 ounces per person per month.

Planning for Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet
Union, continues, with the Greek campaign, Operation Marita, receiving
secondary attention from the German General Staff. (1)
