Monday, 31 March, 1941

A 109-plane RAF night raid on Brest fails to score hits on the German 
battleship Gneisenau and Scharnhorst moored there.

As German and Italian civilians leave Yugoslavia, Berlin and Belgrade
mutually withdraw their ambassadors.

The USA receives and rejects protests from Germany and Italy over the 
internment of their merchant vessels.Z

An American scientific and military mission is sent to Greenland to
evaluate the potential of bases there.  Weather stations on that island
could be invaluable for predicting storms the North Atlantic.
