Indian forces begin to assemble for an attack on Amba Alagi in Abyssinia.

As Rashid Ali warns Britain to land no more troops in Iraq, Iraqi forces
surround the British base at Habbaniyah and sabotage oil pipelines leaving
the country. Ali had previously suggested that British civilians should
be evacuated from Baghdad to Habbaniyah; 230 women and children there are
now declared hostages.

German aircraft raid Malta, while the RAF strikes at Benghazi.

"I understand from the press that Colonel Lindbergh is returning his
commission to the Secretary of War. That leads me to wonder whether he is
returning his decoration to Mr. Hitler." - Stephen Early, Presidential
Press Secretary (Lindbergh had received the Order of the German Eagle
from Marshal Goering in 1936)
