Admiral Darlan meets Hitler at Berchtesgaden to discuss increased Franco-German cooperation. Hitler seeks the use of Vichy bases in Africa and the Mideast. The USSR, meanwhile, recognizes the pro-German government of Iraq. The nation's recent diplomatic gestures are apparently an attempt to placate Germany.
