It halts attacks on shipping off the island's coast, and begins bombing airfields ashore. South African troops arrive at the scene of the battle for Amba Alagi, forcing an Italian withdrawal by night. The Italians are continually harassed by Ethiopian guerrillas. Germany announces that the northern part of the Red Sea is now considered a combat zone. Meanwhile, German ambassadors reach Baghdad, where they receive a formal request for German intervention in Iraq.
