Saturday, 17 May, 1941

As British forces conclude an orderly withdrawal, German forces
in Egypt consolidate their territory, re-occupying Sollum and Fort
Capuzzo.

German air attacks on Crete continue, focused mostly against RAF
airfields there.

Italian aircraft reach Iraq and prepare to support the pro-Axis
forces of Rashid Ali.

"President Roosevelt or some one else might rally popular feeling
in America to full war effort with an inspiring outline of the
ways in which the defeat of Nazi Germany would shield the world
against German aggression for as long as fifty years to come."
